Understanding & Treating Pelvic Pain

The Challenge of Chronic Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is one of the most challenging conditions to diagnose and appropriately treat. Too often, medical professionals may dismiss these concerns due to lack of specialized knowledge or fail to understand the profound impact chronic pain has on every aspect of a person’s life – from work and relationships to mental health and daily activities.

At Transformation Pelvic Surgery and Medicine, we take a different approach. We recognize that chronic pelvic pain is a complex, multi-faceted condition that requires comprehensive evaluation, compassionate care, and personalized treatment strategies.

Our Comprehensive Approach

Multi-Modal Treatment Strategy There is no single “magic pill” to cure chronic pelvic pain, but we can create a personalized treatment plan to help bring your pain under control and improve your quality of life. Our approach may include:

Dietary Interventions
– Anti-inflammatory diets
– Identification and elimination of trigger foods

Medical Management
– Hormonal therapies for suppression
– Targeted pain and nerve pain management

Physiotherapy referrals
– Referrals to specialized physiotherapist to relax the pelvic floor

Surgical Options
– Minimally invasive laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) for endometriosis
– Adhesion (scar tissue) removal
– Ovarian cyst treatment
– Advanced procedures like minimally invasive hysterectomy

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
Infection of the reproductive organs that can cause ongoing pelvic pain and complications.

Ovarian Cysts
Fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries that can cause pain, pressure, and other symptoms depending on their size and location.

Adhesions
Scar tissue that can form after surgery, infection, or endometriosis, causing organs to stick together.

Bladder Pain Syndrome
A chronic condition that causes long-term pain and pressure in the bladder and pelvic area, along with a frequent and urgent need to urinate

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
A common, chronic digestive disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, and changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea, constipation, or both

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Problems with the muscles, ligaments, and tissues that support the pelvic organs.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Chronic pain in muscle trigger points throughout the pelvic region.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Comprehensive Evaluation
Your initial consultation will include a detailed medical history, discussion of your symptoms, and physical examination. We take time to understand your complete health picture.

Diagnostic Testing
When appropriate, we may recommend imaging studies, lab work, or specialized procedures to identify the source of your pain.

Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on our findings, we’ll work with you to develop a treatment approach that fits your lifestyle, preferences, and health goals.

Ongoing Support
Managing chronic pelvic pain is often a journey. We provide continuous support, monitoring, and plan adjustments as needed.

Central sensitization
When the central nervous system (CNS) becomes hypersensitive and amplifies pain signals, leading to heightened and exaggerated pain experiences that persist even after tissue injury heals
